TRISTAN

* * *

I’ve become very proficient at slipping out of her window, navigating down the side of the house, and entering back through the front door, all without making a sound that she’ll hear from upstairs.

This time when I leave her room, I feel victorious.

And guilty. Having sex with her was a momentary lapse in judgement. She’s fucking mine and now even my dick has the stains of her.

On Friday, this will all be over—or it better be. Tomorrow, I’m “checking in” with Chief and snatching a tracker from the precinct. In some way or the other, I’ll ensure it remains on her in case Alex has me stay behind.

Which, I have a feeling is exactly what will happen.

From what we know about the guy, I don’t see him allowing me into his house, especially with me being a cop. Doesn’t matter if I’m on his payroll; he won’t take the risk. Not if he’s smart anyway.

Because that’s exactly what allowing me into his home will be. A motherfucking risk.

For now, I’ll play it smart. If all goes well, this will end Friday. From the texts they’ve been sending me, Ryker is thrilled and Brent relieved.

And then what? My original idea was to simply disappear in the night, never seeing my Little Bird again. But that was also before I touched her. All my plans disintegrated into thin air, leaving me with a blank spot on my planner.

If I disappear and stop the visits, my real self has no reason to remain here either. If I tell her what I’ve done, she’ll hate me. She’ll think this is messed up—that I’m sick and the villain of her story.

She has no clue who the real villain is but maybe when she discovers that, she’ll understand why I’ve done all this. Why I had to do all this. Then she’ll hate me all over for taking her brother away. An impossible cycle that’ll never stop moving.

Too bad for her, I’ll chain her to my bed if I need to. When I told her, she’s mine, I wasn’t kidding. She’s my obsession, and you know why obsessions are even referred to being that in the first place?

Because she occupies—no, consumes—every fibre of my body, mind, and soul.

That’s why.

Next, she’ll occupy my bed forever.
